“Mycorrhiza” means fungal root. Mycorrhizae are fungi that develop a symbiotic relationship with the roots of plants. Mycorrhizae does not photosynthesize and cann't fix its own carbon. Hence the mycorrhiza has to absorb nutrients from the soil which are consequently passed along to the plants.
With its unique feature described above, mycorrhizae promotes root growths of plants and increases the uptake of nutrients. These characteristics, in return, increase the yields and decrease fertilizer usages. Furthermore, mycorrhizae provides protection against soil-borne diseases and boost plants' stress tolerance.

Photosynthetic bacteria can operate on the phyllosphere (leaf surface) and the rhizosphere (area around the roots). In the soil, these bacteria stimulate the root growth and boost the metabolic activity of other beneficial bacteria. On the leaf surface, they excrete phytohormones and enhance the photosynthesis process.
